Barry Reigate: Equation
In September 2011, I assisted the artist Barry Reigate with his successful and well attended solo show ‘Equation’. Colourful, funny and fucking slick is how I would describe it.
A series of geometric forms appropriated from a number of Mathematics exams and re-contextualized as pseudo-modernist icons. The forms find themselves iterated through various media, in minimal works on paper, as a number of floor-based concrete sculptures and as elements in a sequence of paintings that serve to ornament an evacuated form of Pop-art expressionism. He’s going to be around for a long time, he’s worked for Stella McCartney and counts Kim Hersov as a friend. One of my favorite shows. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the future.
